True Democracy
Steel Pulse emerged from a tough Birmingham suburb during the height of the punk explosion to become one of the top British reggae bands. After a trio of albums for Island Records, the group signed to Elektra for TRUE DEMOCRACY, and came up with one of their strongest sets of songs. The 1982 release harkens back to their rabble-rousing Rastafarian roots with the fiery “A Who Responsible?,” while also reaching out to a broader audience with tracks like “Chant A Psalm” and “Ravers,” which would become concert staples for the band. Released 35 years ago this month, Steel Pulse's TRUE DEMOCRACY is a collection no reggae fan should be without.
