Doing a 180: Jethro Tull, Thick as a Brick

In case you've seen the title of this post and you've found yourself pondering a particular possibility, allow us to confirm your theory: yes, we are moving forward with the premise that you can never have too much Jethro Tull…and to further prove it, we're releasing the 180-gram vinyl edition of Thick as a Brick this week!

As any Jethro Tull fan worth their salt already knows, Thick as a Brick is a concept album revolving around a 10-year-old boy named Gerald Bostock, and although it's often been said that the whole affair was intended as a satire of prog-rock, it's hard to really tell the difference between satire and legit prog when a band delivers a 44-minute song spread over the course of both sides of an LP and calls it an album…not that there's anything wrong with that. Indeed, the heavily edited single version of the title track is an undisputed '70s rock classic.

As hard as it may be to believe, there are some who still won't give Thick as a Brick the time of day simply because “it's not Aqualung.” If you're one of those folks, we've only got four words to say to you: let it go, man.

Oh, okay, just one more sentence: this 180-gram reissue of Thick as a Brick sounds absolutely stellar, so if you've never owned it on vinyl or if you've just decided that it's time you finally filled that Thick as a Brick-shaped hole in your life, now's the time to pick up a copy because…well, frankly, it's been 40 years since the album's original release, so we really do mind if you sit this one out.
