Instant Gratification: The Cars, “Shake It Up” (DEMO)

It seems like only yesterday that we let slip the info that Rhino would be releasing expanded editions of two classic Cars albums – SHAKE IT UP and HEARTBEAT CITY – in the very near future. Well, friends, the future is almost here: these reissues will be arriving this Friday, and when they do, you’ll find that they feature the 2016 remastered versions of the original albums, rare and previously-unreleased bonus tracks, and illustrated booklets featuring new interviews with Ric Ocasek and David Robinson as well as liner notes by noted rock critic David Fricke. 

When we told you about these releases back in early February, we offered to help you endure the suffering as the minutes dragged by offering up the demo for the band's HEARTBEAT CITY hit, "Drive."

Then when we reminded you about them earlier this month, we told you about how you could hear the original version of the SHAKE IT UP song “Coming Up You,” which was called “Coming Up You Again,” by visiting the awesome pop culture site Dangerous Minds.

Well, we know that it’s the final few days before an album’s release that are the hardest to get through, so we’ve got one more opportunity for you to hear one of the bonus tracks before these reissues actually hit stores. Over at Billboard.com, you can hear the original demo for the title track of SHAKE IT UP, a version which provides a perfect example of just how much production can transform a song from a pleasant little ditty into a stone cold classic.
