Now Available: Bee Gees, 1974-1979
If you're a diehard Bee Gees fan, then you're probably the first person to bristle when someone starts to suggest that the stuff the brothers Gibb did during the disco era is the only stuff that matters, just as you bristle when someone implies that the disco-era material isn't worth hearing, because it all matters and it's all worth hearing. That said, there's no denying that 1974-1979 was a very good time frame for the Bee Gees both commercially and creatively, which is why we've compiled their recordings from that era into a new box set, one which features an additional disc filled with B-sides and outtakes, and after working long and hard to come up with a title that perfectly encapsulated the set's contents, we finally decided to call it...1974-1979.
Yeah, okay, so maybe we didn't work that long and hard to come up with the title, but keeping things short, sweet, and to the point isn't the worst thing in the world, y'know?
1974-1979 includes Mr. Natural (1974), Main Course (1975), Children of the World (1976), Spirits Having Flown (1979), and The Miami Years, 11 tracks which feature material from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack as well as those aforementioned B-sides and outtakes. All told, it's a pretty wonderful collection that tells the tale of the Bee Gees' disco glories while also helping to fill in the blanks on the sort of material the Gibbs were doing that didn't hit the radio.
