Now Available: Jethro Tull, SONGS FROM THE WOOD: THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Over the course of their career, Jethro Tull’s music has been variously described as rock, prog, and folk, but nowhere did the full trifecta come into play more wonderfully than on the band’s 10th album, SONGS FROM THE WOOD. Although it hasn’t always been viewed as a stone-cold classic, time has been quite kind to the LP, which has remained a fan favorite while also inching its way up the ranks of the critics’ list of Best Jethro Tull Albums of All Time, as well it should.

Now that SONGS FROM THE WOOD is celebrating its 40th anniversary, Rhino has put together a 3-CD / 2-DVD set to commemorate the occasion, one which includes:

Original album remixed in stereo by Steven Wilson on CD. Unreleased tracks and alternate versions on CD. Unseen footage from the flat transfers of the original stereo masters on DVD. DTS/DD 4.0 Surround flat transfers of the quadrophonic master on DVD. An 80-page booklet featuring an extensive history of the project, a film script synopsis, track-by-track annotations by Ian Anderson, plus rare and unseen photographs. 

It’s a gorgeous piece of work – we’re talking about the 40th anniversary set, although the same could be said of the album itself – and it’s one which will help continue to remind listeners that SONGS FROM THE WOOD is one of Tull’s best efforts.
