Now on Vinyl: Grateful Dead, Jethro Tull, Chicago

Over the past few months, regular Rhino.com readers will have noticed that we’ve released several awesome albums digitally and on CD which, when we wrote about them here, featured a disheartening line about how the vinyl version would follow at a future date. To this we say, “Welcome to the future!”

Grateful Dead, LONG STRANGE TRIP: MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK: Get it at Rhino || Amazon
Back in May, right as we released the CD and digital versions of this soundtrack, we promised you – and we did so in this piece right here, in case you don’t remember – that “later this summer you’ll also be able to pick up highlights from the 2-CD set on a 2-LP vinyl release, and there’ll even be a limited edition 6-LP version that includes all of the material from the 3-CD Amazon exclusive set.” Well, guess what? “Later this summer” has finally arrived!

Chicago, CHICAGO II: STEVEN WILSON REMIX: Get it at Barnes & Nobles
In January, we released Wilson’s new stereo remix of the 16-track multi-track tapes. Now you can finally listen to it on your turntable and hear classics like “25 or 6 to 4” and “Colour of My World” in a way you’ve never heard them before.

Once again, the aforementioned Mr. Wilson takes a classic album and gives it a stereo remix. This one’s been done especially to celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary, but it’s so crisp that it sounds like it could’ve been recorded yesterday.
