This Day in Music

42 years ago today, Todd Rundgren and Utopia took the stage of the legendary UK concert event known as the Knebworth Festival and stormed through an 11-song set which proved to be one of the more memorable performances during the course of the proceedings.

That’s saying something, too, because it was quite a lineup that day: in addition to headliners Led Zeppelin, the other artists performing at Knebworth were The New Barbarians (featuring Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, Stanley Clarke, Bobby Keyes, Ian McLagen, and Joseph Modeliste), Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, the Marshall Tucker Band, Chas and Dave, and Fairport Convention.

Here’s the full set listing as they performed that day:

  1. Overture: Mountaintop and Sunrise
  2. Communion With the Sun
  3. Sunset Boulevard
  4. Love of the Common Man
  5. The Seven Rays
  6. The Verb "To Love"
  7. Emergency Splashdown
  8. Heavy Metal Kids
  9. Boogies (Hamburger Hell)
  10. Hiroshima
  11. Do Ya

We don’t have a precise duplicate of the set list on Spotify, but we do have a playlist that’s filled with all of the songs that Rundgren played during the course of the show, so give it a listen over in the right-hand corner there!
