City To City
Gerry Rafferty will be forever linked with “Baker Street,” a magical soft-rock hit written as he was emerging from the legal limbo of his previous group, Stealers Wheel (of “Stuck In The Middle With You” fame). The song is the centerpiece of the Scottish singer-songwriter's second solo album, CITY TO CITY, which displaced the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack to take the No.1 slot on the U.S. chart on this day in 1978. Meticulously produced by Hugh Murphy, the collection shines from start to finish with memorable melodies and outstanding instrumentation; among its ten fine originals, “Right Down The Line” and “Home And Dry” were also Top 40 U.S. singles. Gerry Rafferty's crowning achievement, the Platinum-selling CITY TO CITY remains a progressive pop delight.
