July Jukin' continues kicking off with Bill Deal and The Rhondels cover of The Beatles' "Hey Bulldog" -- a cover I find myself returning to, a lot. After that we hook up with some Jamaican vintage rocksteady with Anderson's All Stars' "Intensified Girls" and The Reggae Boys' "Selassie". From there things get out there a bit with Francis Bebey, via the compilation African Electronic Music 1975-82, the Night Vision Orchestra and Safariari before heading back to NYC with Gil Scott-Heron. American r&b, soul and primitive blues and folk fill in the middle before some choice Shangri-Las, a Velvet Underground demo and some Zig Speck - a Sonny Smith production featuring Ty Segall. Enjoy.
