Happy Birthday Bernard Sumner of New Order

For a man who just turned 65 years old, New Order singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, let alone retire. The Salford lad born January 4, 1956, put his resilience on full display late last year when he revealed that he survived a bout with the COVID-19 pandemic currently raging around the world. 

"I was one of the lucky ones, I didn't get it too bad," Sumner told The Current in Minneapolis. "I felt I had a little bit of a temperature, but not much. I had it for four days, it went away for four days, and then it came back for four days. When it came back, it was more severe, but still not too bad. I just felt extreme fatigue, like a really bad hangover. Then it went away, and I'm OK. But I've heard horror stories over here [in the UK] about it. A couple of people know people who've died from it ... It seems like Russian roulette. Like, you can get light symptoms, like me, or it can kill you. It's crazy."

Sumner and New Order have been keeping busy throughout these quarantine times, sharing a brand new song--"Be a Rebel"--that arrived with a fresh music video that finds the band still able to craft evocative electronic dance rock that really matters.

"In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song," Sumner told NME about the thrilling new track. "We can't play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together. We hope you enjoy... until we meet again."
