We know that a lot of folks see how much Grateful Dead material we release here at Rhino, and we know there are probably people who think, “Man, can there possibly be any more material?” The answer, of course, is a resounding “yes,” because what else would a label known for its reissues and remasters say? But the truth of the matter is that we come to you today with a new Dead release that’s as pleasantly unexpected as any we’ve issued in recent memory.
Just in time for the 50th anniversary of WORKINGMAN’S DEAD, Rhino is proud to present THE ANGEL’S SHARE, a compilation of 2.5+ hours of previously unreleased studio outtakes from the recording sessions for that seminal album. Put together from dozens of 16-track reels that were stumbled upon in some unlabeled boxes, there are outtakes for every song on the original album, and Grateful Dead legacy manager David Lemieux, engineer Brian Kehew and archivist Mike Johnson have put together the best of the bunch for the listening enjoyment of Dead Heads everywhere.
A blend of in-studio conversation, partial takes, and complete takes, THE ANGEL’S SHARE provides a fascinating fly-on-the-wall experience. You’re gonna love it.
