RHINO Details Second Round of QUADIO Releases
Today, Rhino is back with another set of high-quality quadraphonic releases following the success of the first set of Quadios: Alice Cooper’s Billion Dollar Babies, Black Sabbath’s Paranoid, The J. Geils Band’s Nightmares… and Other Tales from the Vinyl Jungle, and Jefferson Starship’s Red Octopus.
Quadraphonic sound, or 4.0 surround sound, utilizes four audio channels connected to four speakers positioned at the corners of a listening space. The multi-tracked audio is mixed dimensional, immersing the listener in an expansive soundscape.
Making their quadraphonic debut in nearly 50 years, this next set features America’s Holiday, Charles Mingus’ Mingus Moves, Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown, and Spinners’ Self-Titled. The collection is available on October 13 as a Blu-ray disc with both a quadraphonic and 192/24 stereo mix. America’s fourth studio album, Holiday, solidified the band's potential by reaching No. 3 on the Billboard album chart and a RIAA gold certification. It features the hit singles “Tin Man” and “Lonely People,” which reached No. 4 and No. 5 on the Billboard singles chart. Mingus Moves, acclaimed jazz bassist Charles Mingus’ 37th studio album after his return to Atlantic Records in 1973, includes some of his most significant compositions, “Canon,” “Opus 3,” and “Opus 4.”
Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown was the peak of his folk-country sound, charting at No.1 on the Billboard 200. It features the singles “Sundown” – reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Pop and AC charts – and “Carefree Highway” – reaching No. 10 and No. 1 on the Billboard Pop and AC charts. The Spinners’ third studio album, Spinners, marked the beginning of the ‘Philadelphia Sound’ with anthemic tracks, “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” “One of a Kind (Love Affair),” and “How Could I Let You Get Away.” The album peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and spent three weeks on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
