Celebracion: The Warner Bros. Recordings (Album of the Day)
Originally a Bay Area R&B group called The Malibus, Malo was among the first wave of Latin-influenced rock bands in the early 1970s. Led by singer-guitarist Jorge Santana (Carlos' brother), the band signed to Warner Bros. and promptly produced a classic self-titled debut album and Top 20 single, “Suavecito,” which decades later would be sampled in Sugar Ray's chart-topping “Every Morning.” CELEBRACIÓN: THE WARNER BROS. RECORDINGS takes the story from there; the 4-disc set include all four of the group's albums (MALO, DOS, EVOLUTION and ASCENCIÓN), all of their non-LP single versions and a previously unreleased edit of "Pana,” all remastered from the original tapes. With a stronger jazz influence than most of their Latin rock brethren, Malo carved out a distinctive niche during their original two-year lifespan, and this comprehensive and highly listenable set is truly cause for CELEBRACIÓN.

A Live One (Album of the Day)
Phish were legendary as concert performers, so when their first live set arrived in 1995, it was manna from heaven for fans. A LIVE ONE offers 13 originals, each recorded at a different venue across the country during the preceding year, and from song selection, band performance, audience reaction and recording quality, it's tough to imagine a better representation of a Phish show short of sitting in the front row. While the 2-disc set highlights such standards as “You Enjoy Myself” and “Stash,” the track lineup also includes songs unavailable on the group's studio releases. As full of creative surprises as the Vermont jam band itself, A LIVE ONE is the perfect album to cue up as we celebrate Trey Anastasio's birthday...
The Complete Trio Collection (Deluxe) (Album of the Day)
Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt had each established distinguished singing careers by the mid-1970s when they resolved to record together, but the demands of separate careers delayed an album release for more than a decade. TRIO was well worth the wait; the 1987 collection won two Grammy Awards and topped the country album chart for five consecutive weeks, spinning off such hits as "To Know Him Is To Love Him." TRIO II arrived in 1999, earning another Grammy and selling more than one million copies worldwide. Produced by Harris, the new three-CD THE COMPLETE TRIO COLLECTION includes both of these pop-country landmarks along with a bonus disc including alternate takes of album tracks and 11 completely unreleased recordings spanning both album sessions.

Coltrane Jazz (Album of the Day)
For John Coltrane, the next step after the epochal GIANT STEPS was the 1961 Atlantic collection COLTRANE JAZZ. Seven of its eight tracks – including the Sonny Rollins tribute “Like Sonny” and the magnificent “Harmonique” - were recorded in 1959 with the rhythm section from Miles Davis' band (of which Coltrane had recently been a member). Cut a year later, “Village Blues” marked the beginning of the saxophonist's association with pianist McCoy Tyner and drummer Elvin Jones, who would go on to be featured players on 'Trane's classic Impulse sessions. Produced by Nesuhi Ertegün, COLTRANE JAZZ offers both a look back and a hint of things to come through an appealing mix of standards and original compositions, and as such is the perfect way to remember the legendary performer, who was born 90 years ago today.
Album Of The Year (Deluxe Edition) (Album of the Day)
Up until last year's reunion, ALBUM OF THE YEAR had been the final word from Faith No More for nearly 20 years, and listening to it today, it still has the feeling of a summation. "We were definitely referencing our musical roots as well, going back to darker tones visited in ANGEL DUST,” reflects keyboardist Roddy Bottum. Featuring members of the current lineup – Bottum, drummer Mike Bordin, bassist Billy Gould, guitarist Jon Hudson and singer Mike Patton – the 1997 collection was recorded mostly in Gould's home studio and produced three singles: "Ashes To Ashes," "Last Cup Of Sorrow" and "Stripsearch." A two-disc Deluxe Edition of ALBUM OF THE YEAR has just hit stores; its eight bonus tracks include live versions of the album track "Collision" and the Burt Bacharach and Hal David classic "This Guy's In Love With You," plus rare mixes of "Last Cup Of Sorrow," "Pristina" and more.
